What does STEAM@UAA offer?

STEAM@UAA offers 4th to 7th graders a unique program which brings science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics to life. The program stimulates young minds via an exciting, age appropriate and fun learning experience.

Additionally, they will be immersed in an English-speaking environment and have fun in the unique atmosphere of a 144-year-old-school.

What makes STEAM@UAA special?

This is a unique program that helps kids to develop the 21st century skills of creative thinking, problem solving and teamwork. The STEAM kids will learn to explore with different eyes.

They will enjoy the amazing environment of Üsküdar American Academy, which has been nurturing successful, morally upright and free-thinking young people since 1870s. STEAM@UAA will give middle school children the chance to experience this tradition of excellence.

SCIENCE

Our young scientists will
be researching areas such
as Istanbul’s traffic
problems and its marine
life. They will have fun in
our high-tech labs
conducting experiments
and examining the water
of the Bosphorus!

TECHNOLOGY

UAA is famous for its
amazing technology.
Our expert team will be
guiding our future
technology wizards to
design pipelines and even
build their own analog
and digital electrical
conductivity sensors!

ENGINEERING

These budding
engineers will also be
busy designing, making
and decorating their
very own bridges! They
will be researching
alternative energy
sources to help make
Istanbul a sustainable
city.

ART

The junior artists will be
reflecting their favorite
Istanbul view on a poster
with shining city light
sensors. They will also be
designing costumes,
creating traditional
Turkish dishes and
patterns hidden in
Istanbul’s artwork.

MATHS

STEAM@UAA’s talented young
mathematicians will be using
their maths skills to haggle in the
local market! They’ll examine
how maths works to make oil
tankers float and develop maths skills to
better understand
the world
around them.

They will be looking at Istanbul with
different eyes - under the theme of
“Home Sweet Home Istanbul”.

“ Why is the water
so green?”

“ How do they build
those amazing bridges?”

“ What is on those
terrific tankers?”

We will be taking a boat trip down the Bosphorus and answering these questions.

Our young scientists are also researching things such as Istanbul’s traffic problems and its marine life.

We also study the art of Istanbul and our junior artists will be reflecting their dream Istanbul view on a poster with shining city light sensors.

They will reveal the engineers in them and designing and decorating bridges.

We will also be playing sports such as rounders, rugby and dodgeball.

“ How seagulls fly so
alluringly in the sky?”

“ Which methods of
engineering were used in
ancient times?”

“ How was the arts &
crafts in Ottoman times?”

Our intrepid explorers are finding answers to these questions and researching alternative energy sources and patterns hidden in artwork.

We will have a ‘Treasure Hunt’ at UAA! The teams will be searching for their prizes by completing STEAM missions.

Our talented engineers are also busy building their own modern apartment with a pipeline system and earthquake sensors!

In addition, our graceful artists are making their own mosaics and ebru artwork.

This week we are playing sports such as tennis, volleyball and American football.

“ It’s our last week,
BuT the fun
does not stop!”

In our last week, our talented young technicians are designing costumes, creating traditional Turkish dishes and using their maths skills to haggle in the local market.

There is an adventure to a local farm and the chance to reconnect with nature.

Finally it is time to celebrate! Our young scientists, technology buffs, engineers, artists and mathematicians are giving poster presentations, perform a dance show, and display all the amazing things that they have experienced to their parents.
